Qur'an - Seven skies



There are many verses referring to seven skies or heavens.  Two examples are provided below. The key points are that the Holy Qur'an describes them as "layers" with each layer having its "duty and function".  This is exactly what science says about the layers of atmosphere.

Additionally, the "Seven Skies" may refer to 7 layers in the space with our known universe being the first sky! The other skies may be of different material and following different rules.





ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَٰتٍ طِبَاقًا مَّا تَرَىٰ فِى خَلْقِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ مِن تَفَـٰوُتٍ فَٱرْجِعِ ٱلْبَصَرَ هَلْ تَرَىٰ مِن فُطُورٍ

He Who created the seven heavens one above another: No want of proportion wilt you see in the Creation of ((Allah)) Most Gracious. So turn thy vision again: see you any flaw? 67:3







فَقَضَىٰهُنَّ سَبْعَ سَمَـٰوَاتٍ فِى يَوْمَيْنِ وَأَوْحَىٰ فِى كُلِّ سَمَآءٍ أَمْرَهَا وَزَيَّنَّا ٱلسَّمَآءَ ٱلدُّنْيَا بِمَصَـٰبِيحَ وَحِفْظًا ذَٰلِكَ تَقْدِيرُ ٱلْعَزِيزِ ٱلْعَلِيمِ

So He completed them as seven firmaments in two eons, and He assigned to each heaven its duty and command. And We adorned the lower heaven with lights, and (provided it) with guard. Such is the Decree of (Him) the Exalted in Might, Full of Knowledge 41:12







وَجَعَلْنَا ٱلسَّمَآءَ سَقْفًا مَّحْفُوظًا وَهُمْ عَنْ ءَايَـٰتِهَا مُعْرِضُونَ

And We made the sky a protected ceiling (canopy), but they, from its signs, are turning away.  21:32
