Science - Reduction of the Earth surface
The Earth is not a perfect sphere. It is flattened at the poles due to the Earth's rotation around its axis and the gradual flattening has been happening over millions of years. Therefore, compare to the equator, the outlying borders (poles) are reduced!
In 2023, the scientists discovered that the Earth is spinning faster than ever. They attribute this to global warming.
Additionally, there is continuously a minimal loss of matter from the Earth to the atmosphere and that is more than what is gained from the atmosphere.
Finally, over the millions of years, the Earth's temperature has been increasing causing the ice around the poles to melt. Consequently the oceans have covered more and more land resulting in the overall reduction of the land.
Qur'an - Reduction of the Earth surface
أَوَلَمْ يَرَوْا۟ أَنَّا نَأْتِى ٱلْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَا وَٱللَّهُ يَحْكُمُ لَا مُعَقِّبَ لِحُكْمِهِۦ وَهُوَ سَرِيعُ ٱلْحِسَابِ
See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? (Where) Allah commands, there is none to put back His Command: and He is swift in calling to account. 13:41
بَلْ مَتَّعْنَا هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ وَءَابَآءَهُمْ حَتَّىٰ طَالَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْعُمُرُ أَفَلَا يَرَوْنَ أَنَّا نَأْتِى ٱلْأَرْضَ نَنقُصُهَا مِنْ أَطْرَافِهَآ أَفَهُمُ ٱلْغَـٰلِبُونَ
Nay, We gave the good things of this life to these men and their fathers until the period grew long for them; See they not that We gradually reduce the land (in their control) from its outlying borders? Is it then they who will win? 21:44
