Prophecy of Romans' victory

History - Prophecy of Romans' victory over the Persians

In 614-616 CE, the Romans were defeated by the Persians and the Roman empire almost collapsed.  The pagans of Mecca who were idol worshipers rejoiced at the defeat of Christians and taunted the Muslims that their faith would be similar to the Romans.  However, within a couple of years, Heraculius defeated the Persians.

Qur'an - Prophecy of Romans' victory over the Persians

Chapter 30 of the Holy Qur'an is named the Romans.  It describes the defeat of the Romans by the Persians but it also gives the news that within 3 to 9 years, they will defeat the Persians!  Considering that the Roman empire almost collapsed after their defeat by the Persian, this future prophecy of the Qur'an seemed impossible at the time when these verses were revealed.

According to a narration passed down by Prophet Muhammad's descendants and the 5th Gate of Knowledge, Imam Muhammad ibne Ali Al-Baghir (AS), during the Holy Prophet's migration from Mecca to Medina, he dispatched two letters, one to the Roman emperor and another to the Persian king. The emperor of Rome graciously received the Muslim envoy, but declined the invitation to Islam. In contrast, the Persian king treated the Muslim envoy disrespectfully, tearing the letter into pieces. As a result, the Roman emperor was rewarded by Allah for his respectful response to the invitation, while the Persian king faced future defeat as a consequence of his pride and insults.

The Romans will defeat the Persians in the future!  The verses are simple to understand.  In Verse 30:3, the Arabic word  أَدْنَى  means lowest and near.  Why does the Qur'an say that the Romans will defeat the Persians at the lowest land?!  Where is the lowest land on Earth?  It is near the Dead Sea with the elevation of   -395 meters below the sea level.  That is exactly where the future battle took place!  In summary, the holy Qur'an correctly describes 3 future events:

  1. Romans will defeat the Persians.
  2. The battle will take place at the lowest land
  3. The victory will happen within 3-9 years.

Amazingly, the Muslim army of 313 men with only 2 horses and 7 camels defeated the well equipped Meccan army of over 1000 at the Battle of Badr during the same years.

غُلِبَتِ ٱلرُّومُ

The Roman Empire has been defeated 30:2

فِىٓ أَدْنَى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ

In the lowest (near) land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. 30:3

Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice 30:4
