Science - Function of the frontal lobe of brain
The frontal lobe of the brain is vital to our consciousness, as well as functions that appear uniquely human, such as spoken language. It is home to areas that manage thinking, emotions, personality, judgment, self-control, muscle control and movements, memory storage and more. Just as its name indicates, it’s the forward-most area of your brain. It handles many abilities such as reasoning and judgement, social understanding, self control and Inhibitions, attention span and working memory, voluntary muscle movements, learning, and recalling information.
Qur'an - Function of the frontal lobe of brain
The term نَاصِيَةٍ in Arabic pertains to the hair in the forehead area. However, it is also used to refer to the forehead area. This word is used in verses 11:56 and 55:41 in addition to the verses below. This is a very old religious gesture Semitic in origin and refers to offering your forelock to the master for him to pull. The verse discusses disbelievers and illustrates their fate, as they are forcefully dragged by their foreheads, rendered powerless and unable to utter a word. What's intriguing is that the verse depicts the forehead as a symbol of deceit and transgression. Why?
From a scientific perspective, the frontal lobe plays a crucial role in various aspects such as self-control, inhibitions, reasoning, judgment, and critical thinking. It is this particular region of the disbelievers' brains that has led them astray, causing them to make poor judgments and decisions. Furthermore, they have failed to exercise control over their worldly desires, succumbing to the destructive force of greed (also related to the functions of frontal lobe).
For those who doubt, it is an intimidating and untamed scenario when they are being forcefully taken away by the angels.
Multiple verses in the Holy Qur'an enlighten us about the inevitable silence that befalls the disbelievers. Their tongues are restrained, and they can only utter words with the permission of Allah. This notion aligns with the understanding that their speech is regulated by the dominion of their frontal lobes, as if being guided (pulled) by their foreheads.
